Clasico to BFC

Euro Round-up

EPL

United prevail in Anfield battle

Manchester United moved five points clear in fourth place after defeating Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield. The big talking point emerged in the second half when Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was sent off for a stomp on Ander Herrera, within a minute of coming on. This made it easier for United, who counted on a Juan Mata double to secure the vital win.

Chelsea had to stave off a Hull City fight back to win 3-2 on Sunday. Hull’s Abel Hernandez tied the game at 2-2 from the 28th minute after going behind 2-0, but Loic Remy came off the bench to score a late winner for the Blues.

Manchester City 3 – West Brom 0

Newcastle 1 – Arsenal 2

Tottenham 4 – Leicester 3

La Liga

Classic Suarez decides ‘Classico’

Barcelona has opened a four point gap at the top of the table after conquering Real Madrid 2-1 in another heated ‘El Classico’. It was the man for the big occasion, Luis Suarez, who netted a sublime winner on 56 minutes to turn back a dispirited Los Blancos. Real will feel hard done by though, after seeing a goal wrongly disallowed for offside.

Fernando Torres celebrated his 31st birthday with his first La Liga goal this season in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win over Getafe. Midfield wizard Koke was responsible for both goals as he set up both Torres’ header on four minutes and Tiago’s far post goal following another set piece.

Sevilla 2 – Villarreal 0

Real Sociedad 3 – Cordoba 1

Elche 0 – Valencia 4

Serie A

Tevez magic ensures win

Juventus has secured another clean sheet in their quest for the Serie A title after blanking Genoa 1-0 in Turin. Argentine forward Carlos Tevez beat two players before striking from an improbable angle to complete a solo goal; which secured an efficient win for the leaders.

Lazio continue to heap pressure on second place AS Roma after prevailing 2-0 over Hellas Verona. It was one-way traffic with Hellas only managing three shots at goal over 90 minutes.

Cesena 0 – AS Roma 1

Udinese 2 – Fiorentina 2

Sampdoria 1 – Internazionale 0

Bundesliga

‘Gladbach stun champions

Manuel Neuer had a shocker in goal as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich fell to Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0 on Sunday. Raffael Araujo scored both goals in either half for ‘Gladbach who have now consolidated their place in third position. The Ballon D’or finalist Neuer was made to look ordinary as straight forward shots somehow found its way into goal.

Borussia Dortmund is harbouring hopes of European football next season after outscoring 10-man Hannover 3-2.

Schalke 0 – Bayer Leverkusen 1

Stuttgart 3 – E Frankfurt 1

Mainz 1 – Wolfsburg 1
