Champions Edwin Allen poised to repeat at Girls’ Champs

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Edwin Allen High are well on their way to defending their GraceKennedy ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships title after establishing an 18-point lead over Hydel High on Friday.

After 20 finals at the end of the penultimate day, Edwin Allen are on 131.5 points with Hydel High a clear second with 113 points ahead of St Jago on 86.33 points. Holmwood Technical High are unusually languishing in fourth spot on 75 points.

St Jago’s Natalliah Whyte crowned herself as the fastest schoolgirl, capturing the Class One 100m in 11.77 seconds running into a negative headwind of -1.7 mps. Shauna Helps of Wolmer’s Girls was second in 11.81 ahead of St Jago’s Shanice Reid with 11.86 seconds.

Meanwhile Shellece Clark of Edwin Allen captured the Class Two equivalent in 11.81 seconds into a headwind of -2.1 mps. Yanique Dayle of Hydel was second with 11.94 ahead of Kimone Hines of Green Island in 12.03 seconds.

The promising Kimone Shaw destroyed the field in Class Three winning in 11.81 seconds, well ahead of Kiara Grant of the Convent of Mercy Alpha in 12.07 seconds. Ray-donna Lee of Hydel was third in 12.22 seconds.

Joanne Reid copped gold in Class Four, winning the 100m in 12.00 seconds ahead of the Edwin Allen pair of Kevona Davis and Shanique Rowe with 12.05 and 12.32 seconds, respectively.
