Insulting to the PM
Dear Editor,
I write in response to a letter to the editor in the Jamaica Observer of March 26, 2015 written by a Michelle Bradshaw.
I find Bradshaw’s attack and reference to the prime minister as harsh and unjustifiably critical. While it is her right to express her opinion of the prime minister’s address, equating it to the delivery of a eulogy, she was not factual and could prove misleading to those who did not listen themselves to the prime minister’s address.
The prime minister did mention the protection of our children and ended on the note “Leave our children alone”. It appears that Bradshaw was the one who was either sleeping or that part of the address did not register.
Bradshaw, Rome was not built in a day and your intelligence should dictate to you that a matter of such national importance has to be duly and carefully discussed at the right forums in order that plans can be positively and meaningfully implemented. It requires more than just flippantly being mentioned in an address to appease you and your itching ears.
In my opinion, it is blatantly insulting to the prime minister to suggest that as the first woman prime minister of Jamaica, instead of being given the honour of addressing the president of the United States on his inaugural visit to Jamaica, that a Bob Marley tune should be played so that “he does not lose his presidential mind”. Shame on you! Very distasteful! If you feel so disillusioned with Jamaica, its prime minister, and leaders, maybe it’s time you thought of relocating instead of remaining here and being a fly in the ointment.
