Savage Beauty
Mission Catwalk Executive Producer Keneea Linton-George shares a favourite moment…
It may have been coincidental being in London on the opening weekend of the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition, but attending was no coincidence. Securing tickets for the first day of the exhibition was near impossible, even for some of London’s top concierge service, but we were relentless in our pursuit.
Being able to intimately view the work of one of the most talented designers of my generation was worth the effort. Every stitch, perfectly tailored contour and intricate beading had me mesmerised.
The exhibition is a retrospective spanning almost his entire career.
The displays took me on a journey through his tormented mind and irreverent executions from the soft beautiful silk gown, royal opulent suits, luxurious beading and couture feathers, to tattered leather and animal horns from a dark and scary underworld.
The life-size hologram of Kate Moss, from McQueen’s 2006 collection, titled The Widow of Culloden, was the display that captivated me the most.
The sheer genius of the execution to showcase the endless ruffles of silk organza in a ghost-like form in a pitch-black space almost brought me to tears. I watched it over and over. His talent had no bounds and we will celebrate his life and work forever.
