Dunbeholden move closer to Div One final
DUNBEHOLDEN established a huge advantage in their St Catherine FA Division One semi-final against Watson Grove, following a 6-0 first-leg victory at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Friday night.
A four-timer from the lanky Alwin Morgan in the eighth, 18th, 66th and 72nd, plus second-half strikes from Craig Gayle and Dwayne Peters, have basically rendered Thursday’s return-leg academic.
The mid-season champions could even lose that game 5-0 and still advance to the final, a feat that will also earn them a place in next season’s Major League.
Federal United, the other unbeaten team in this division, also took another step, albeit a smaller one, towards the championship decider after an Olanzo Brown hat-trick guided them to an edgy 3-2 victory over Windsor Lion.
Brown, with goals in the 15th and 35th, had given Federal a 2-0 lead at the break, before a late brace from Garfield Francis (73rd and 81st) brought Windsor within nine minutes of a thrilling comeback — only for Brown to pop up with a late winner, which completed his treble and gave Federal a slender advantage in the tie.
Meanwhile, the semi-final ties in the Major League competition begin on Sunday with first-leg action, also at the Prison Oval.
Title favourites Portmore United play Newland FC at 4:00 pm, while GC Foster and Tru-Juice will meet in the feature contest at 6:00.
