Leonardo Ulloa scored his first Premier League goal since Boxing Day as Leicester climbed off the bottom of the table with a 2-0 win at home to Swansea on Saturday.

The Argentinian striker, who only started the match after David Nugent suffered an injury in the warm-up, ended his personal drought with a 10th goal of the season before Andy King’s 89th-minute effort secured victory for Nigel Pearson’s side.

Leicester’s third win in a row left them in the relegation zone but on goal difference alone and with a fighting chance of staying up in their remaining six league matches.

However, the Midlands club were indebted to Kasper Schmeichel, son of Manchester United goalkeeping great Peter, for a fine save from Nelson Oliveira in the second half.

Leicester manager Pearson recalled Marcin Wasilewski, King and Andrej Kramaric following last week’s 3-2 win at West Brom.

Meanwhile Swansea boss Garry Monk replaced suspended Neil Taylor and injured Bafetimbi Gomis with Jordi Amat and Oliveira repectively.

But the Welsh club missed the physical threat of Gomis up front and found themselves under siege almost from the kick-off against a buoyed-up Leicester.

Marc Albrighton curled a shot wide before Leicester got the goal they had been threatening in the 15th minute.

Wasilewski’s lofted long-ball forward was flicked on by Ulloa to Wes Morgan and when the ball broke free it was the former Brighton man who struck a low shot into the bottom corner from some 10 yards out.

Leicester were good value for their lead, but their failure to score a second goal kept Swansea in the game.

The Swans forced a save from Schmeichel in the 53rd minute when he turned away an 18-yard shot from former Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey before Gylfi Sigurdsson tested the Denmark ‘keeper.

Schmeichel produced a much better save 13 minutes later when, after Oliveira had got through Leicester’s defence, he saved the forward’s shot with his legs.

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy had a penalty appeal rejected when he went down under a challenge from Ashley Williams but fortunately for the Foxes it did not turn out to be a decisive decision.

Instead they made the game safe a minute from time when Lukasz Fabianski failed to hold Esteban Cambiasso’s free-kick and King pounced to score from the rebound
