Sol introduces new lubricant
SOL Petroleum Jamaica Limited unveiled a revolutionary motor oil formulation to special guests at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in St Andrew, on Wednesday.
Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology is the company’s most technologically advanced lubricant to date and the first motor oil designed from natural gas.
Robert Jackson, general manager of Sol Petroleum Jamaica Limited, said his company was pleased to deliver on its promise to keep the country on the cutting edge of advances in high-performance lubricant technology.
“The new Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology will give motorists in Jamaica access to Shell’s latest and most advanced motor oil designed to deliver an exciting range of key benefits which meet the needs of modern engines,” he said.
Fuel economy benefits vary with viscosity grade, but certain products within the Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology range can deliver an improvement of up to three percent in fuel economy.
Jonathan Briceño, Shell Lubricants Cluster Marketing Manager for Latin America, said the new lubricant is a milestone in the composition of Shell Helix Ultra motor oils since base oil typically makes up approximately 75 to 90 per cent of a motor oil.
“This launch marks the culmination of 40 years of research in gas-to-liquid technology at Shell lubricants technology centres worldwide. Shell PurePlus Technology is paving the way for the next generation of motor oils by offering possibilities for new viscosity grades that can provide engine protection in more extreme conditions. This is a big moment for our brand and we want to shout about this milestone to excite and delight our customers,” Briceño said.
Shell Helix motor oils are distributed in Jamaica by Sol Petroleum Jamaica Ltd. Sol uses the Shell brand under license across its regional Shell Service Station network and is the Macro Distributor of Shell’s fuels and lubricants, which are fully backed by Shell’s world-class technical expertise.
