PHOTOS: Jamaica finish ahead of USA to cop women’s 4x100m title at Penns
PHILADELPHIA, United States — A superb third leg by Schillonie Calvert enabled Jamaica to beat the United States of America (USA) in the 4x100m event at the Penn Relays in 43.70 seconds.
The Americans clocked 43.79 with Nigeria third in 44.22 seconds just ahead of Canada in 44.37.
Kerron Stewart matched stride with American Jessica Young on the first leg before Sherone Simpson lost ground to Candice McGrone, but Calvert flew by Marshevet Hooker giving Natasha Morrison a small lead which she held comfortably to the line.
That victory sent thousands of Jamaicans present into chorus as they sang the Jamaican National Anthem in their own version.
