York United school UWI, as rain wrecks Portmore/Savannah clash
Heavy rain forced the abandonment of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) All-Island Confederation Play-off match between Portmore United and Savannah SC at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.
When referees called an end to proceedings in the 35th minute due to a waterlogged playing field, Portmore were 2-0 up.
Both goals were scored by Rodian Jennings, who struck in the 18th and 32nd minutes, as Portmore, the former national champions, dominated proceedings even as afternoon showers forced spectators to seek shelter.
In the other fixture, York United defeated UWI 3-1 at York Complex in St Thomas.
The next set of matches is scheduled for Sunday. Savannah are expected to host York United at the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland, while University of the West Indies welcome Portmore to the Mona Bowl in St Andrew.
The four teams in the Confed Play-offs will oppose each other on a home and away basis.
The top two teams will be promoted to next season’s Premier League competition.
