KINGSTON, Jamaica — Grace Foods has announced a recall of specific codes of its Caribbean Traditions Ground black pepper, due to isolated reports of the presence of particles of sand in the product.

A media release from Grace Foods said the recall, which is Class III, is the lowest category.

It said the affected product bears the code BB 29/Jan/17. This code can be found on the upper ridged section of the bottle and is printed in black ink.

“Consumers who have purchased bottles of the product bearing this code, are being advised to cease further use and return the bottles to point of purchase, where the full cost of the product will be refunded,” Grace said in the release.

Chief supply chain officer, Grace Foods and Services’ Dianne Robinson explained that the recall is voluntary, and that it affects no other codes of the product. “There are no health concerns surrounding the presence of the particles of sand,” she said.

She further noted that although the issue had only been detected with a few bottles of the product, all bottles bearing the specified code, BB 29/Jan/17, have been removed from shelves in the trade.

“Providing safe, high quality products to our consumers remains our number one priority,” she said. She also noted that this recall does not affect any other Grace products.
