Parkinson flows out of LIME
Elon Parkinson has left LIME Jamaica and his role as corporate communications manager to move into independent consultancy. His move comes at a time when LIME , which acquired Flow earlier in the year, is in the process of eliminating its own brand and instead using the more popular Flow brand.
Parkinson joined LIME in October 2012 where he worked on internal and external communications. Prior to that he was a producer at CVM TV from 2010 to 2012, where he hosted LIVE @ &7, a current affairs and lifestyle programme. From 2007 to 2010 he was a reporter and presenter at Nationwide News Network.
Israel moves into the light
Minna Israel is one of three board Directors to be appointed by JPS Shareholders, Japan-based Marubeni Corporation.
The JPS Board is comprised of representatives appointed by the company’s three main shareholders: Marubeni, Korea East West Power, and the Government of Jamaica. Marubeni has maintained a policy of ensuring that at least one of its Board Directors is a Jamaican, according to a recent JPS news release.
“This is a commitment that gives me an opportunity to serve Jamaica and impact the lives of people from every walk of life, every day,” Israel said in the news release.
Israel, a banker by profession, is special advisor to the Vice Chancellor at the university of the West Indies (UWI), a role she has had since September 2013. Prior to that she was the president and country head of RBC Royal Bank in Jamaica from 2008 to 2012. She was the managing director of Scotiabank in the Bahamas from 2005 to 2007 and was the executive vice president and deputy CEO at the Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica from 2003 to 2005. She has more than 30 years of corporate, commercial and retail banking experience.
Israel holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario — Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada, a BSc in Managment Studies from UWI at Mona and a diploma in business administration and banking from the University of Technology in Kingston.
Douglas leaves Waste and takes up Standards
Greg Douglas is continuing his career in IT within the civil service and is now MIS manager at the Bureau of Standards. He started the role in April.
Douglas was previously in a similar role as information technology manager at the National Solid Waste Management Authority, having started there in June 2012. Prior to that he was a manager at Brigade Haulage and Trucking Services from 2009 to 2012. He started his career in IT at the Office of the Services Commission where he was the Information Technology manager, working there for 12 years from 1996 to 2008.
Douglas holds a Bachelor’s degree in computer science from Florida Internaional University in the United States. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds a certificate in software application and technology from the Electronics Trade and Technology Development Corporation via the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme.
