Early morning accident leaves two dead, eight hurt

Two men were killed and eight passengers injured in an early morning collision involving a coaster bus and a motor car in Half-Way-Tree in St Andrew yesterday.

One of the deceased, who was the driver of the Toyota Coaster bus, has been identified by the police as Howard Lane of Glenmeade Road, Maverley, north western St Andrew.

The identity of the other victim, who was a passenger was not ascertained up to press time yesterday.

The two men were killed in a collision at the intersection of Hagley Park Road and Maxfield Avenue, police said.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Unit, the police force’s information arm, are that about 3:00 am, Lane was driving the coaster bus with several passengers aboard and was heading towards Eastwood Park Road when he collided with a Suzuki Swift motor car travelling towards Three Miles.

Lane and nine passengers sustained multiple injuries and were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he and a male passenger succumbed to their injuries. The others were admitted, but up to yesterday, the Jamaica Observer could not determine how badly their injuries were.

Investigators from the Half-Way-Tree Traffic Department are probing the matter.
