JAMAICA Tallawahs suffered their second consecutive loss after slumping to an 84-run defeat to Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game at Sabina Park late yesterday. Brad Hodge struck an unbeaten halfcentury in the Amazon Warriors’ 179-3 off their allotted 20 overs.

Playing in front of an almost capacity crowd at the venue, the Tallawahs, for the together good partnerships with the bat and were dismissed for 95 with four overs and a ball to spare. Ronsford Beaton took 4-9 off two overs and five balls.

On a batting surface which had more grass than the one used in the previous three games at the venue, the hosts, who also lost to Barbados Tridents on Saturday, were not able to cope after falling to 54-5 in the 10th over. Andre Russell top scored with a futile 14-ball knock of 28. Scores: Amazon Warriors 179-3 (20 overs); Tallawahs 95 (15.5 overs).

Earlier, the Amazon Warriors were propelled to a healthy total of 179-3, thanks to a blistering 65 not out from Brad Hodge. The batsman smashed half a dozen sixes and three fours off only 30 balls. Excellent support came from openers Assad Fudadin and Lendl Simmons, who combined for a partnership of 71 runs in less than 11 overs.

The left-handed Fudadin blazed 54 off 43 balls, while Simmons made a 32-ball 36. Tallawahs’ left-arm medium pacer Krishmar Santokie, the leading wicket-taker in the 2015 CPL with 15, ended with 1-17 off four overs.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday at Providence in Guyana. The Tallawahs have eight points from eight games, while Amazon Warriors have six points from six outings.
