MOGUL in the Making nominee Stephanie McLean has expanded her designer clothing line into highly competitive international markets.

The fashion designer and CEO of global e-commerce fashion platform — Trendy Treat, told the Jamaica Observer that her clothing line brand ‘Mogul in the Making’ is now being carried by four US-based boutiques –Field Goods, Haute Cool Chic, Bevin Danu Boutiques and Trends and Tresses.

The young entrepreneur has also inked a deal with Ireland-based fashion store Thread Swap and Korea-based Namuhana.

“Things have been picking up. I’m currently in discussions with another international store, but they haven’t confirmed just yet,” McLean told the Business Observer. “I’ve been working to build my brand and it’s finally paying off.”

In May, McLean was featured by the Jamaica Observer as a Mogul in the Making after successfully creating a platform that converges global designers into a common space. The platform allows individuals to purchase fashionable clothing and cosmetic items from around the world and is popular for African and Israeli designer wear.

Tailored travel for women

Since then the 29-year-old has managed to form new partnerships with international boutiques and is also looking to launch a travel experience service tailored for women in local and international hotels dubbed Trendy Signature Itineraries.

“Trendy Signature Itineraries are curated travel experiences for women who want to see the world. Anybody can book a trip, but this is vacation travel designed for women and includes spa packages, special tours and dining experiences,” McLean stated.

She added that Jamaica will be the first destination for the experience, having partnered with the Trident & Gee Jam Hotels, followed by South Africa.

Currently, McLean has a team of 30 international and local designers, including Jamaican-born designer Ayanna Dixon, on Trendy Treat. Her clothing line is carried by a number of local boutiques including Collectibles, Base Kingston and New Eagle.

“When I started I kept meeting dynamic women who were doing all sorts of amazing things, but they complained about challenges finding fashion in keeping with their lifestyle,” she stated.

“I went with Mogul in the Making, because it suited the customers. Trendy Treat is a lifestyle brand for women; the woman who wears the line is inimitable, bold and making waves in whatever she does.”

Plans are now underway for the airing of the designer’s journey leading up to the launch of Trendy Treat. The programme will be aired on Hype TV come August.

“A film has been done of me and some of the designers’ experiences as young businesswomen, and this is an activity that we believe will promote the spirit of entrepreneurship in Jamaica,” she declared.
