Jamaica Tallawahs and Guyana Amazon Warriors will both be hungry for points when the teams clash in the Hero Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament today at Providence in Guyana.

The game is scheduled to start 5:00 pm Jamaica time.

The third-placed Tallawahs have eight points from eight games, while fifth-placed Amazon Warriors have six points from six outings.

Barbados Tridents lead the preliminary standings with 10 points from eight games, while second-placed St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who lead the Tallawahs based on a superior run-rate, have eight points from nine games.

St Lucia Zouks are fourth with seven points, while Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel occupy last with five.

As the preliminary stage winds down and teams jostle for places in the top four, Tallawahs captain Christopher Gayle said they are desperate to win their last two preliminary games.

“We have two more games to go and if we can win those two games we can give ourselves a chance to be in the final four,” he said.

The Amazon Warriors should be the more confident of the teams after pulverising the Tallawahs en route to an 84-run win at Sabina Park on Sunday.

But the Tallawahs skipper is backing his team to rebound from the embarrassing loss.

“We have to go back to the drawing board and see how well we can actually come back as a group…we’ll actually bounce back strong,” Gayle said.

Denesh Ramdin, the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors, said the comfort of the expected spin bowler-friendly conditions at home should work in his team’s favour.

“It’s going to spin a lot on our home ground, so we are going to play in conditions to suit us so we can get some points,” he said.

The top franchise at the end of the 10 preliminary round games will automatically advance to the 2015 championship match.

The third- and fourth-placed teams will contest an eliminator game, and the winner of that encounter will battle the second-placed side for the right to play in the CPL final.
