Atkinson finishes 2nd in 100m breaststroke at Pan-Am Games
TORONTO, Canada — Alia Atkinson opened Jamaica’s medal account at the Pan-American Games in Toronto, Canada, after she won the silver medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke Friday night.
The Olympic Games finalist, swam 1 minute 06.59 seconds after leading at the turn in 30.81 seconds, beaten to the wall by American Katie Meili who won with 1 minute 06.26 seconds, after setting the Pan-Am Games record 1:05.64 seconds in the preliminaries earlier in the day.
Canadian Rachel Nicol who had beaten Atkinson in the preliminaries was third in 1 minute 09.91 seconds.
