DJ Charlie B to rock ‘Playground’
TORONTO’S DJ Charlie B is guest disc jock rostered for a very Special staging of Appleton Special Celebrity Playground at Wavz Beach in Negril, on Thursday, August 6.
Also known as Mr Canada, DJ Charlie B has collaborated with a number of international stars including P Reign, Drake, the Weeknd, YG and Future. Affiliated with Drake’s October’s Very Own (OVO), he was the monthly resident DJ for BET’s 106 & Park.
He spoke to the Jamaica Observer of what patrons are to expect.
“I’m not going to give Jamaica the regular Top 20 hit records. I’m preparing to give them music they have not heard in a long time and bring the feel-good vibe back. Genre-wise, as a DJ, I feel you need to be prepared to play any genre. However, once the women are happy at a party, your job is done right!,” he said.
Charlie B spoke of dancehall’s influence in the Land of the Maple Leaf.
“Jamaican music has been big in Toronto for as long as I can remember. It’s gotten even bigger with our affiliation with Popcaan [Unruly Crew]. When I first started to DJ, I wanted to be a reggae DJ. I used to play a lot of lover’s rock to set the tone…The riddims, samples etc are often re-made for a lot of genres of music,” he said.
Tamika West, marketing manager for dark spirits at J Wray and Nephew Limited, said the event will be off the chain.
“Celebrity Playground will offer an experience like no other, complete with good food, great drinks and top class entertainment from our International DJ Charlie B and our very own local celebrities. There’s no better way to celebrate Independence, and our celebrities for the day can look forward to sharing their Special moments with us,” she said.
DJ Charlie will be flanked by top local disc jock acts Coppershot and Chromatic. Dancehall act Aidonia is slated to perform, while the day’s proceedings will be guided by reigning Miss Jamaica Universe, Kaci Fennell.
Tickets for Appleton Special Celebrity Playground are $6,000 drink inclusive, or free with season band. A very ‘Special’ red and white dress code will be strongly enforced.
