Police car set on fire as cops pursue goat thieves
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — The police are reporting that a service vehicle and a private car owned by a policeman were set ablaze and destroyed during a police operation against suspected goat thieves in Brighton, North East St Elizabeth Tuesday afternoon.
Police say a man was held in connection with the theft of live and butchered goats found at the scene. Police say 10 live goats and about 10 carcasses were found at the scene.
Reports say police, who were suspicious of activities in a remote area close to the Upper Black River Morass, parked their vehicles and walked some distance before coming across the animals and the man whom they took into custody.
On their return from the operation, police personnel found the two vehicles burning.
By mid-afternoon, a fire truck was said to be putting out the blaze.
