Three plead guilty to cocaine charges
TWO farmers and a vendor on Monday pleaded guilty to importing 18 pounds of cocaine into the island.
The trio, who pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court, are to be sentenced on October 5.
The sentence date was set after attorney Courtney Maxwell asked for social enquiry reports to be done on the men’s background.
The three are Arando Martin, 33, of a Braeton Way, St Catherine address; Ramie Geohaghan, 25; and Shawn Nicholson, both of a Halfmoon Bay address, in St Catherine.
The men pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and taking preparatory steps to import cocaine. They pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy charge.
Allegations are that on July 27, approximately 5:15 pm, Martin, Geohaghan and Nicholson arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on a flight from Curacao with the cocaine in their luggage.
When Nicholson was cautioned, he reportedly said, “Only ting mi have to say is mi neva know that did inna di bag dem.”
They were subsequently arrested and charged.
