Reconsider pension reform proposal – JTA president
KINGSTON, Jamaica – President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) Norman Allen has expressed concerns about the proposed pension reform arrangement in which public school teachers will contribute for the first time as of April, 2016.
Allen, at the annual JTA conference held recently, bemoaned that the proposed payment, which will be levied on teachers, is too onerous and should be reconsidered.
“Teachers are demanding, whatever the contribution figure turns out to be, that the initial first-year payment be treated with, by grossing up salaries by that amount, to allow us not be worse off by what should be a win-win situation,” he argued.
The JTA president also noted that teachers have been placed at a disadvantage in light of the wage offered by the Government.
