JGRA hosts blood drive today
THE Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) is slated to host a blood drive at the RUBiS Service Station in Port Antonio, Portland, today.
The event, which will be done in collaboration with National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), is planned as a fun day and expected to run from 10:00 am to 5:000 pm. Corporate Area donors, who are interested, will be provided with a free bus ride courtesy of The 100 to event. The bus leaves International Assets Services located at 107 Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, at 7:30 am.
In commenting on the partnership, assistant blood donor organiser at the NBTS, Keishawna Pinnock expressed her appreciation and urged everyone to come onboard.
“Every Jamaican should join in this effort aimed at improving the health care of the nation,” she said.
In its promotion of road safety, the JGRA started its 2015 campaign with a blood drive held in Ocho Rios on May 9, others in Spanish Town and Westmoreland. The group said it has collected nearly 200 units of blood.
Gregory Chung, JGRA vice president and chairman of the Road Safety Committee, urged community members to come out to support the event in the hope of collecting the largest number of units to end the series for this year. He also thanked those who have given their support at the previous drives.
The JGRA has also embarked on sprucing up nine pedestrian crossings in Hanover and Westmoreland, and two in Cross Roads in St Andrew.
Since 1986, JGRA has been a pioneering force in promoting road safety in Jamaica and engages in road safety activities islandwide, beginning with the official launch in June each year.
