SIX people accused of conspiring to defraud J Wray & Nephew of $10 million, using fraudulent cheques, are scheduled to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court for a plea and case management hearing on October 6.

Jennifer McKenzie, 41, cosmetologist of Woodham Crescent, Kingston; Floyd Willocks, 62, of Spanish Town, St Catherine; Steadman Campbell, 56, construction manager of Red Hills, St Andrew; Claude Chamberlain, 54, vendor of Falmouth, Trelawny; and Maurice Henry, 66, of Myers Avenue, Kingston 11, are all charged with obtaining money by forged documents and conspiracy to defraud.

While Alecia Hall, 30, waitress of Manning’s Hills in St Andrew is charged with attempting to obtain money by forged documents and conspiracy to defraud.

According to the police, between December 2014 and March 2015, numerous fraudulent cheques were drawn on the company’s account amounting to $10 million.

Following investigations the accused were arrested and charged.

Three fraudulent cheques in the amount of $890,323.67, $895,762.9 and $925,206.17 were reportedly lodged in Henry’s account and later withdrawn while a fraudulent cheque for $916,185 and $889,380.37 were reportedly lodged in Campbell’s and McKenzie’s account, respectively, and later withdrawn.

Hall and Willocks were reportedly held at the Manor Centre branch of the National Commercial Bank in St Andrew trying to withdraw money after a fraudulent cheque for $886,207 which had been lodged in Hall’s account.

Hall, reportedly told the police that it was Willocks who had asked to use her account to transfer some funds.

And, Willocks, when questioned, allegedly told the police that it was Henry who had given him the money after he had borrowed some money from him to fix his truck.

Henry was subsequently arrested, but said nothing on caution.
