Thief blames open house for his actions
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A man who pleaded guilty to breaking into a house and stealing several items explained that the dwelling was open, so anything was possible.
Mohamed Rasululah pleaded guilty with explanation on charges of breaking and entering and receiving stolen goods when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court recently.
“It wasn’t so much things. It wasn’t a break-in. I didn’t carry any tools, the place was open,” Rasululah said.
“Did he owe you anything?” Magistrate Simone Maddix asked.
“No,” he replied.
“So you felt that you were in the Garden of Eden and pick anything? So you help yourself?” the magistrate quizzed.
“Yes, your honour,” he replied.
“That’s what you call a clean sweep,” she said.
The court then erupted with laughter.
The magistrate subsequently requested a social inquiry report and issued a fingerprint order.
Rasululah will be brought back to court on October 9 for sentencing.
