Jamaicans to participate in Run4TheWorld to help the poor
On Saturday, September 26, Jamaicans will take part in Run4TheWorld — a world-wide, one-day run or ride — to raise funds for projects supported by Operational Mobilization (OM) International, owners and operators of the Logos Book Ships, which have made several visits to Jamaica.
Run4TheWorld was started in 2007 by OM International to unite the world in reaching out to the poor and marginalised and to link peoples in a global sports event, while bringing awareness to the activities being carried out by the organisation.
Marjorie Scott Anderson, Island Co-ordinator of OM Jamaica, has invited Jamaicans to walk, run or ride individually or with family and friends for only one hour on September 26 anywhere, any time and at the location where they would usually exercise.
However, in order for Jamaicans to contribute their kilometres to the global total, each volunteer participant needs to register prior to the Run4TheWorld event by emailing omjamaica@gmail.com or by calling 833 1418. A registration fee of $500 is also required and can be paid at any Scotiabank island-wide to the OM Jamaica Jamaican dollar account #803455 – Half-Way-Tree Branch.
At the end of the walk, the participants must immediately register their distance by emailing or calling OM Jamaica.
Last year, 6,037 persons participated in the Run4The World event around the world, recording 23,116km of the world’s estimated 40,000km and raised US$73,112.
