NWC resumes late payment fee September 2

NWC resumes late payment fee September 2

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) says it will resume the application of the late payment component which was suspended last month following the recently-announced approval by the OUR of the Payment Compliance Initiative.

This resumption will come into effect on September 2 the commission said in a media release issued late Tuesday.

Under the initiative, the NWC pays an incentive reward of $250.00 to each customer account that is fully paid up on or before the stipulated due date each month.

At the same time, a late payment fee of $250.00 will be applied on the day after the due date where the account has not been settled in full.

This initiative, the NWC said, is applicable to all residential, commercial and condominium accounts and the amounts will be reflected on the next month’s bill.

NWC said it is to be noted that customers who paid their bills in full and on time continued to benefit from the early payment incentive since the introduction of the loyalty programme even while it awaited the approval of the OUR.

Through this early payment incentive and late payment fee, NWC said it expects to increase the percentage of customers who pay their bill on time and in full each month from approximately 20 per cent to in excess of 40 per cent.
