Sales rep on fraud charge after selling car with lien on title
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A Kingston sales representative is facing fraud charges after reportedly selling a motor vehicle which had a lien placed on the title.
Police from the Counter-Terrorism Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) arrested and charged 47-year-old Orville Waugh on Friday with conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by means of forged document and resisting arrest.
Waugh is a sales representative of Slipe Pen Road and Harbour View in Kingston.
He allegedly sold a Toyota Wish motorcar for the sum of J$1.2 million in July 2014 but the buyer later discovered that a lien was placed on the motor vehicle’s title.
The complainant said he confronted Waugh and the vehicle was returned. Waugh then allegedly promised a refund, which did not materialize.
A report was made to C-TOC and an investigation was launched, which led to the arrest and charge of the sales representative.
He is scheduled to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 15.
