Dear Editor,

We have been advised by the Government that we should “get ready, till our lamps”, politically. What do those comments mean?

Will the purchasing power of our dollar improve? Does it mean that we will be in line for free food? Does it mean that we will be called upon to be a part of that bus ride to beef up attendance in another area at a political meeting? Does it mean that some of yesterday’s promises will be fulfilled? Does it mean that our crime/violence rate will go down?

Jamaica needs some Daniels, some Gideons, some Joshua, and some Esthers who will demonstrate love, leadership, and loyalty with the sole objective being to improve life, earning capacity, and neighbourly love.

We are all tired of the many unfilled promises by our leaders. To political leaders and aspirants, I say, “Be different, be sincere, be honest.” Today’s average Jamaican is more politically alert and aware as against five, 10, 15, 20 years ago. Each political party has a loyalist group of about 20 per cent of the voting population. Therefore, the 60 per cent are the actual decision-makers. Do not underestimate their votes and potential influence. Do not misread their silence.

Jamaicans are hurting emotionally, financially, physically and mentally.

God is watching you all: Love Jamaica, love Jamaicans, to thine own self be true.
