Students prefer ‘bashment bus’, but Thwaites encourages use of JUTC buses
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Education Minister Ronald Thwaites is calling on parents to encourage students to make full use of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company’s bus system.
The minister told reporters and editors at this week’s Jamaica Observer Monday Exchange that he is urging “all students who are going to and from school to use JUTC transport, wherever possible”.
He went on to state that the students, especially the teenagers, prefer to take the “bashment bus”, even when the JUTC fares are reasonable.
Thwaites said both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport and Works have made considerable efforts to facilitate students, and urge that full advantage is taken of these measures.
