KINGSTON, Jamaica – A witness today testified to seeing a soldier shooting an unarmed civilian, who was among a group of men rounded up during the May 2010 operation to apprehend Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

Minnette‎ Lindsay told the Tivoli Enquiry that a man of unsound mind was shot in the presence of Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Major Garth Anderson, the senior officer on the scene.

She said a group of men were rounded up and placed to lie on the hot concrete before being put in a truck.

The woman recounted that soldiers kicked some of the men in the face and stomped on their hands and one of the soldiers told the men who could not hold in the truck to run.

Lindsay said in her evidence-in-chief led by Michael Williams that a 20-odd year old man of unsound mind named Sidney Clarke ran and a soldier shot him in the head.

Major Anderson was right there on a building sitting on the railing of one of the high rise buildings when Clarke was shot, Lindsay recalled.

In her account of events, she also said the JDF Major saved the lives of many people in Lizard Town and stopped the soldiers from abusing men in the area.
