CROFTS HILL, Clarendon — Defending champions Clarendon College scored six goals for the second straight game after blanking Kellits High 6-0 in their Flow/ISSA daCosta Cup Zone H game played at the Crofts Hill Community Centre yesterday.

Joel Sterling, who scored a three-timer against Edwin Allen High in the opening game in Montego Bay on Saturday, scored two more yesterday as the Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis-coached team raced to six points at the top of the zone, while Lennon High joined Thompson Town on three points after beating them 3-0.

Rushane Grant scored two of Lennon High’s goals.

Meanwhile, there are concerns at former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) who were held 2-2 by joint zone leaders Lacovia High in Zone E.

STETHS, who have been to at least one final in the last five seasons, were held 1-1 by Maggotty High and are on two points, their worst start in decades.

Minnows BB Coke and Maggotty joined Lacovia at the top on three points with wins. Maggotty shocked Munro College 2-0 to avenge two losses last season, while BB Coke beat Newell High 3-1 at home.

There were only smiles at Manchester High, however, as they blanked Belair High 9-0 with Romario Walsh scoring a three-timer and Dwaynie Williams getting two goals as the winners won back-to-back games to lead Mile Gully on goal difference in Zone F, setting up a big clash on Saturday.

Mile Gully also won back-to-back games, edging DeCarteret College 1-0.

In Montego Bay, Cornwall College’s nine-game winning streak in Zone A dating back to last season ended with a 1-1 draw against Green Pond High at Jarrett Park.

Despite finishing the game with 10 players after Odaine Lewis was sent off in the second half, Cornwall College are still unbeaten and lead the zone with four points.

A late goal from Tavan Barnes rescued former champions Rusea’s High as they edged hosts Green Island 1-0 in a Zone B game that was badly affected by rain.

Rusea’s, who are expected to top the zone, struggled against a faster but wasteful Green Island team that had the better of them in the first half.

Frome Technical continued their good run with a 4-0 win over Merlene Ottey, moving to six points and having not conceded a goal in two games played.

Dinthill Technical won for the second game, blanking McGrath High 2-0 in Zone K to lead with six points, while Charlemont and Ewarton rebounded from losses on Saturday to win yesterday.

Charlemont beat Tacius Golding 2-0 in Browns Hall, while Ewarton edged Bog Walk 2-1.

Steer Town Academy won for the first time this season, beating Ocho Rios 3-0 in Zone I, while Cedric Titus and York Castle played out a 2-2 draw.
