Champs League Win Inspires Chelsea?

Euro Roundup

After winning their opening UEFA Champions League game Chelsea apparently garnered the confidence they needed to reenter the race for the Barclay’s Premier League trophy. Chelsea hosted Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, beating them 2-0.  The Gunners played with nine men as Gabriel and Santi Carzola were shown red cards. The Blues continued their record of 13 wins out of 14 encounters with Arsenal with a goal each from Kurt Zouma and Eden Hazard. Man City 1- 2 West HamReal Madrid fires out the blocksEibar 0- 2 Atletico MadridBayern Loses Top Spot

Manchester United enjoyed a well earned 3-2 over Southampton today. Southampton started strongly and  kicked off the scoring with a goal from Graziano Pellè. Man Utd’s wonderboy and Man of the Match Anthony Martial rescued the Red Devils by netting twice while Juan Mata put the cherry on top of the victory with another goal.  Southampton responded with another goal by Pellè but it was not enough and Man Utd walked away with the three points.

Leicester 2 – 2 Stoke

Real Madrid continued their quest to take the La Liga trophy with a 1-0 win over Granada. Madrid fans were delighted to see Benzema return to his goal-scoring ways , with the only goal of the match. Cristiano Ronaldo, though scoring earlier this week, in the Champions League, was unable to find the net against Granada. Ronaldo needed a hattrick to overtake Raul’s record as Los Blancos topscorer, but was unable to achieve it this week. While the Madrid camp expressed dissatisfaction with the win, they are the only La Liga team this season to have only clean sheets thanks to Keylor Navas.

Barcelona the current champions beat Levante 4-1. After an uneventful first half, five goals were scored in the second. Marc Bartra opened up scoring for Barcelona and the game. Following him was a goal from Neymar and two from Messi. Ter Stegen was once again caught off the line and Levante’s Casadesus found the net. Messi skied a penalty but made up for it by scoring the final goal of the match.  Barcelona walked away with 3 points and are at the top of the table.

Sevilla 1-2 Celta Vigo

Title holders and title favourites Bayern Munich are now in second place despite beating Darmstadt 98 3-0.  Darmstadt lost their first game of the season as Arturo Vidal , Kingsley Coman and Sebastian Rode found the net.

Dortmund secured their spot at the top of the Bundesliga table with a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen with goals from Jonas Hofmann , Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

VFB Stuttgart 0- 1 Schalke

Wolfburg 2-0 Hertha BSC

Meanwhile in Serie A Juventus records their first win of the season beating Genoa 2-0. Juventus had a disappointing start to their campaign and are paying for it now by sitting in 12th place despite being the current champions of Serie A.

Napoli 5 – 0 Lazio

Carpi 0 – 1 Fiorentina
