Manning Cup Roundup
This weekend’s action saw St. George’s take on Ardenne in an enticing encounter at Winchester Park. Ardenne had their few spells of possession, although the hosts dominated for most of the game. However, George’s could not find the back of the net in the first half due to resilient defending from Ardenne and an outstanding display from their goalkeeper, Kalvin Brown. Throughout the first half George’s kept on knocking on Ardenne’s door, but the guests kept them out. However, the persistence of George’s was rewarded in the 56th minute as Domonic James opened the scoring for them. He later converted a penalty in the 68th minute, with Alex Marshall finishing the scoring for them in the 76th minute. This completed St. George’s third straight win for the season, with the others coming earlier this week. Those included a 9-0 demolition of Kingston Technical on Monday and a 2-0 victory over Denham Town on Thursday.
Both Wolmer’s and K.C registered their second consecutive wins on Friday. Wolmer’s defeated Mona High 2-0, with new boys Prince McGrilvy and Delano Smith scoring to give Wolmer’s the victory. Meanwhile K.C. managed to get past Waterford, thanks to a second half strike from Michael Laing, to earn them a 1-0 win.
On the same day, Jamaica College finally got their first win of the season, while a ten-man Calabar had to settle for a draw. Alando Brown and Rolando Brown scored in the first half for J.C. , to give them the lead. Chevon Cook finished the scoring for J.C. , but St. Catherine was able to grab a consolation goal to end the game 3-1. Calabar did not have the same fortune as J.C. as they were held 1-1 by Clan Carthy. Clan Carthy took the lead in the 15th minute by Roshawn Wallace’s curling effort, but J.C. equalized in the 52nd minute thanks to Leworth Beckforth scoring his penalty.
