The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party has taken Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller totask over what it describes as her persistent use of class and gender-based politics. Young

Jamaica says the PNP’s divide and conquer mentality flies in the face of modern and constructive politics.

Reacting to comments made by the Prime Minister at her annual constituency conference, the organisation says it is clear Simpson Miller is missing the mark on what this election needs to be about.

“By constantly invoking the class and gender cards, it’s clear Mrs Simpson Miller is using the

same old divisive tactics that the young people of this country have rejected. We want to deal

with the substantive issues of economic growth, getting control of the alarming spike in

murders, and ensuring that young people can find meaningful employment. For the near 34 per cent

of unemployed young people, it matters very little where you came from, or what your gender

is, it is about who can get the job done.”

“This must not be a jump up and shout campaign.”, the organisation says.
