Airport workers arrested after ganja found in food
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two men have been arrested following the seizure of 50 pounds of ganja at a warehouse at the Norman Manley International airport last week.
The accused are 26-year-old Demarlo Heslop, a warehouse attendant of Harbour Heights, in Kingston and 33-year-old Franklyn Town resident Kurt Griffiths, a security guard of Kingston 16.
They are charged illegal possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja and conspiracy to export ganja.
The 50 pounds of compressed ganja was found at the AJAS Cargo Warehouse located at the NMIA.
Reports are that about 4:10 pm, Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Contraband Enforcement Team was conducting security checks at the NMIA when a shipment of yams and cocoa was searched and found to contain twenty-two packages of compressed ganja.
This was after officers observed Heslop taking items from a black plastic bag and placing them into one of the carton boxes that were being loaded onto a PMC Pallet by him while Griffiths was observed to be surveying the area. The items were being prepared for export on flight destined for London.
They are to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday, September 25.
