BOJ clip JN to win Inter-Bank One Day Football Rally
BANK of Jamaica (BOJ) won their first Bankers Association One Day Five-A-Side Football Rally title when they defeated Jamaica National (JN) 1-0 in the final of 2015 Western Sports-sponsored Inter-Bank Football Competition, which kicked off last Sunday at the NWC playing field, Mona. Eight teams participated in the 2015 renewal. In the semi-finals, defending champions Scotiabank, who were seeking their seventh straight title, lost 1-2 to JN in a penalty shootout after playing to 1-1 full and extra-time draw.
BOJ clipped ICWI 1-0 with Akeem Thenstead scoring the all-important goal. The final was an exciting affair with goalkeeper Richard Forrest denying National Premier League players Akeem Thenstead of UWI FC, Dawayne Smith of Cavalier SC, and Roger Buckner from scoring on numerous occasions.
JN played a counter-attacking game and Marvin McNeil, Cheron Williams, Rylon Belone and Dyshone Clarke found 2014 MVP, goalkeeper Jabari Wallace, in brilliant form as he made save after save. BOJ got the winner in the 28th minute as Roger Buckner received a pass from Dawayne Smith after which he beat a defender before shooting powerfully through the legs of goalkeeper Richard Forrest.
Anthony Hall, Andre Campbell and goalkeeper Jabari Wallace defended stoutly for the rest of the time to ensure that their team was victorious.
The traditional dress parade was won by Scotiabank for the umpteenth time, with Bank of Jamaica placing second and Jamaica National, third. The league competition for the Norman Goodison Trophy will commence on Sunday with two matches.
