Busy Week For FC Reno
FROME, Westmoreland
FC Reno will hope their two home games in a four day span this week will help them maintain their good start to the Red Stripe Premier League season.
Coming off a 1-1 draw away to Harbour View on Monday night, Reno will face a brutal seven-day stretch, playing Waterhouse at Frome in a rescheduled game this afternoon and Tivoli Gardens on Sunday; both games are set to start at 3:30 pm.
The Westmoreland based-club, who just managed to stay in the league last year, avoiding relegation by one point, are unbeaten after two games and are in third place on the points table on four points.
Promoted Portmore United lead with a perfect nine points from three wins followed by defending champions Arnett Gardens on six points, while Montego Bay United (MBU) are in seventh position on three points from two games.
MBU, who will be away to Boys’ Town on Sunday, had last Sunday’s game against Cavalier SC postponed until September 30, due to Tuesday’s CONCACAF Champions League Game against DC United in Montego Bay.
FC Reno, who started the season with a 1-0 win over Humble Lion at Frome, will hope to maintain their good home form.
The many-time champions got off to a good start last season, but hit a skid that lasted for most of the latter two-thirds of the season and just barely escaped the drop in the final week of the competition.
On Monday night, on a slippery Harbour View field, FC Reno showed the resilience that caused them to continue in the competition this season when they scored late to deny the home team their first victory.
Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens are off to slow starts, and this will further boost the confidence of the FC Reno players.
Waterhouse led early but were pegged back by Portmore United on Sunday, losing 1-2, while Tivoli Gardens went down 0-1 at home to Humble Lion, who were getting their first victory of the campaign.
Waterhouse, semi-finalists last year and finalists two years ago, are on one point and in 11th position from two games played, while Tivoli Gardens are slightly better off, in ninth place on two points from three games.
