CUMI Come Run a tremendous success — Taylor
MONTEGO BAY, St James
CHAIRMAN of the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) Fund-raising group, Junior Taylor, has described last Saturday’s staging of the CUMI Come Run as a tremendous success.
Taylor told the Jamaica Observer West yesterday that roughly $3 million was raised for the staging of the event, which saw a record 780 participants.
The event, which is CUMI’s major annual fund-raiser was held at the Tryall Club in Sandy Bay.
Last year, the run raised $2.6 million for CUMI to bolster the CUMI Trust Fund and support the rehabilitation of the mentally ill in St James and its environs.
This year, the female category of the 5K Run was won by Jane Clauson of Tryall Club, while Delon Maxwell of Vistaprint won the male section.
In other results: Karlene Blagrove of Pacers Running Club was placed first in the female section of the 10K Run, while Rupert Green won the male section; in the 5K walk segment Rose Gordon of Grand Palladium was placed first.
Taylor said next year his committee will be going all out to attract more participants, even as he thanked the sponsors and volunteers for supporting this year’s event.
