Young Jamaican making strides in Belgian league
Eighteen year old Jamaican striker Leon Bailey scored his first goal for KRC GENK as they trumped Dessel Sport 5-2.
Bailey who is one of three non-Belgians in the attacking line-up for the club, scored in the 45th minute to put his team 4-0 ahead just before half time. He played the full 90 minutes of the match as his team went on to win 5-2. Genk is currently ranked 6th in the Pro League table with 14 points.
The Jamaican striker who turned 18 in August of this year has also been making strides off the pitch. His feature in the popular EA Sports football platform FIFA 16 has drawn much attention to his skill and ability.
Bailey has been given an overall rating of 62 in the game with potential of developing to 81, which is similar to the ranking of Strikers such as Theo Walcott and Edin Dzeko.
Bailey decided to join GENK in August despite rumours of interest from clubs such as Chelsea and Ajax. His reason was that the GENK youth academy played a major role in his development, along with Jamaican-based club Phoenix All-Stars.
