Canada’s new top diplomat presents letter of introduction to PM
Canada’s new High Commissioner to Jamaica Sylvain Fabi last Thursday presented his Letter of Introduction to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller at Jamaica House.
Fabi is the 18th Canadian high commissioner to Jamaica since Canada established a resident High Commission in Kingston on September 7, 1962, a news release from the High Commission stated.
A graduate of Bishop’s University, Fabi began his public service career in 1992 after working in the private sector. He has had a number of foreign assignments including, trade commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Moscow, Russia; senior trade commissioner and counsellor at the Canadian Embassy in Havana, Cuba; and senior trade commissioner and counsellor at the Canadian Embassy in Santiago, Chile.
Fabi was the senior departmental advisor to the minister of international trade for one year, after which he served as director for bilateral relations with Latin America and the Caribbean until August 2013. Just before taking up his appointment as high commissioner to Jamaica, he was director for the North America Policy and Relations Division.
Fabi is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Russian. He is married to Jany Joyal. They have two children.
Fabi succeeds Robert Ready.
