Holness congratulates Campbell and Wint
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, has congratulated the two parliamentary aspirants selected to contest the next general election by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) delegates last Saturday.
Holness welcomed the new candidates – Devon Wint in West Central St Catherine and Leslie Campbell in North East St Catherine – during Sunday’s meeting of the Central Executive of the JLP at Belmont Road, which was called to discuss electoral, organisational and other campaign-related matters.
He also tasked them to “move swiftly to address any issues that may have arisen during the keenly contested selections”.
On the issue of party unity, he said that the party must recognize the value, and harness the talents, of all its members, “as it takes its message of prosperity across the island and organise for victory in the upcoming elections”.
He specially recognised the work and contribution of former deputy leader, Dr Christopher Tufton, to the party and the country as a former a minister of government and senator.
He stated that, despite the loss, Dr Tufton and Sharon Hay Webster will continue to play important roles within the party.
