Since David Cameron became British prime minister in 2010, several Jamaican reggae/dancehall acts have entered the United Kingdom’s pop charts.

Yep, the Conservative Cameron’s reign have been happy times in Britain for dancehall/reggae.

Cameron arrives in Kingston today for a one-day visit.

This year has been exceptional with five entries featuring Jamaican acts hitting the UK chart.

The most successful single in 2015 is the biggest by a Jamaican act since Cameron took office. That is OMI’s Cheerleader which spent five weeks at number one this year. His follow-up single, Hula Hoop, is currently number 75.

Powerful by Major Lazer featuring British singer Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley peaked at number 54 while I Need Your Love by Shaggy, Mohombi, Faydee and Costi went to number 36.

My Number 1 (Love Me, Love Me, Love Me) by Stylo G featuring Gyptian debuted this week at number 32.

In 2012, Sean Paul and Marley registered hit the mark. Sean Paul reached number 86 with Hold On while Make it Bun Dem by Skrillex featuring Marley peaked at number 58.

Sean Paul scored three entries in 2013: Turn It Up, which got to number 35; The Other Side of Love which peaked at number seven; and a guest spot on The Saturdays’ number one single What About Us.

London deejay Stylo G, who is originally from Spanish Town, scored a surprise number 18 hit two years ago with his breakthrough song Soundbwoy.

In 2014, British group Clean Bandit’s Come Over featuring Stylo G reached number 45, while Dangerous Love by Fuse ODG with Sean Paul reached number three.

Popcaan also teamed with British singer Melissa Steel on the number 10 single Kisses for Breakfast.
