Embracing your inner naturale
It may seem an ‘all-natural’ phenomenon has developed into a trend among our generation. But, there are still young ladies out there who are afraid or ashamed to embrace their roots. On the other hand though, there are females who are blessed with a lovely head of hair and have no idea what to do with it. Y’all might be on the verge of getting a perm, but girl don’t, we got you!
Here are a few guidelines to help you through the journey looking fabulous:1. Get rid of the bun
An occasional bun is cute but when this becomes your signature style… hun, there is nothing cute about that. Do not make this a trend unless you’re 13. Then you might be exempted.
2. Puffs are not everyday wear3. Don’t colour your hair too often4. Some protective styles may damage your hair
Unless you want to stress your parents’ pockets to get treatment for your hair every two weeks, sporting the puff on a daily basis is a definite no-no. Like buns, puffs are occasional.
Yes, I know, you want to add a little spunk to your hair but you must consider the consequences. Healthy hair is always the goal. Consistent colouring, especially without regular treatment, results in severe hair damage and split ends. You don’t want that, so colouring is to be done occasionally.
Based on my experience, I can advise you to be careful with the style you choose to do to protect your hair. Crochet braids (based on experience) can leave your hair looking like a disaster. Ensure that if you decide to install a certain crochet style, you also have a little knowledge on how to remove the hair when it has done its due. Or go back to your hairdresser for help to remove it. Or ask a sensible family member. 5. Deep conditioning is a must 6. Invest in good natural products
Deep condition is the secret to that perfect puff or ‘fro. Depending on your hair texture, deep condition helps you to get really fab results, and definitely brings out the best in your hair.
This is a must. You will not have healthy, lengthy, bouncy, natural hair without the right products. Here are some must-haves. 7. Don’t be afraid to clip your ends
-coconut oil
-reliable conditioner
-apple cider vinegar
-sulphate free shampoo
Don’t be afraid to lose length. Though this might be a brave step, getting rid of your ends enables fresh growth. In most cases, a brief chop allows your hair to grow faster healthier.
These are just a few tips on what not to do or the simple must-haves. YouTube videos are there to help you with style inspiration and so on. But it’s very rare that that you find vloggers advising you what and what not to do to keep your hair healthy.
