Tivoli Enquiry resumes today
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Tivoli Gardens Commission of Enquiry is set to resume today at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
This session is expected to last three weeks and will end on Thursday, November 5.
About five Tivoli Gardens residents are expected to testify before the
commission comprising of Chairman Sir David Simmons, Professor Anthony
Harriot and retired Justice of Appeal Hazel Harris.
The enquiry is examining the circumstances surrounding the joint police-military operation in May 2010, which was aimed at arresting then fugitive Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
More than 70 people were reportedly killed during the operation.
In the last session of the enquiry, Tivoli Gardens residents gave additional testimony as they recounted their ordeals during the operation.
The commission also heard testimony from two members of the Jamaica Defence Force who said they witnessed extrajudicial killings by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
