JLP candidates for Westmoreland to be presented Sunday
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – With a general election expected to be called by yearend, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Andrew Holness is to present the party’s slate of candidates for the parish of Westmoreland at a meeting set for the Mannings School on Sunday, starting at 3:00 pm.
The candidates are businessman Dixeth Palmer, Westmoreland Western; insurance consultant Andrea Walters, Westmoreland Eastern and businessman George Wright, Westmoreland Central.
The JLP lost all three parliamentary seats in the parish in the 2011 General Election.
Westmoreland Western was won by the People’s National Party’s (PNP’s) Wykeham McNeill, who defeated the JLP’s Carey Wallace; Westmoreland Eastern by Luther Buchanan (PNP), who beat Don Foote (JLP), while Westmoreland Central was won by the late Roger Clarke. He defeated Marlene Malahoo Forte (JLP), who is now her party’s standard bearer in St James West Central.
Westmoreland Central, however, is now represented by the PNP’s Dwayne Vaz, who defeated the JLP’s Faye Reid- Jacobs in a by-election held in December, to fill the vacancy following Clarke’s death, last year August.
