U-20 Girlz lose CFU title
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Jamaica relinquished their title after going down 0-2 to Haiti in yesterday’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 final at the Stade Sylvio Cator.
Batcheba Louis opened the scoring, striking a penalty kick past Jamaica’s goalkeeper Ricquelle Farquharson after stand-in Captain Konya Plummer was adjudged to have handled a shot heading goal wards.
She was yellow-carded for the offence.
Haiti Captain Kensia Destinvil scored from 18 yards out in the 61st to complete the scoring and give the hosts the 2015 title.
Jamaican frustration came to the fore when Deneisha Blackwood was red-carded in the 83rd minute.
By virtue of reaching the final, both teams were already through to the CONCACAF Round of World Cup qualifying.
In the third-place play-off at the venue, Trinidad & Tobago beat Puerto Rico 4-3 in sudden death penalty kicks after both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of full and extra time.
