Parsard’s train powers on to Super Day, Diamond Mile
WITH a yard flush with talent, trainer Harry Parsard is having the season of a lifetime. Parsard is now in third position in the trainers’ championships behind perennial winner Wayne DaCosta, with Anthony Nunes in second place. Parsard, known as the ‘Train Man’ for his tendency to name his horses ‘train’, has saddled 27 winners this year from approximately 155 starts. His charges have earned over $19 million thus far for the season.
The trainer’s latest winners came on Saturday when Go Go Train with jockey Oniel Mullings, riding with a loose stirrup, won the fourth race, and Long Running Train (Winston Griffiths) took the day’s feature, the Royal Dad Trophy, in dominant fashion.
With Super Day (November 14) and the Diamond Mile (December 5) looming on the horizon, Parsard’s string is sure to have more than just a say in these races. On Super Day, the Super Day Mile which is now open to local horses, Parsard’s Uppa Tune, Pete’swildone, and the vastly improved Long Running Train are expected to start, and if they do, are sure to carry the trainers’ flag with distinction.
Potcheen, also from the Parsard barn, is the defending champion in the Super Day Sprint and will come calling when this six-furlong event is being decided, while St Leger winner Superluminal is being charted to participate in the 10-furlong Superstakes where he is given an outsider’s chance of winning but a very good shot at earning.
After Super Day there is the Diamond Mile with Uppa Tune, Potcheen and Pete’swildone seeking the glory of winning the inaugural running of this race.
Interesting days are ahead.
