Young people urged to ‘get connected’ during Youth Month
YOUNG people are being urged to get connected and participate in the slew of activities lined up for Youth Month in November.
This encouragement came from Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna at the launch of the month of activities on Friday at the Simon Bolívar Cultural Centre in downtown Kingston.
She noted that Youth Month, to be commemorated under the theme ‘#IAmConnected’, will give young people an opportunity to get involved in their own personal development.
“#IAmConnected has to do with excellence and with young people moving forward, looking forward, seeing themselves as a part of Jamaica’s future,” she said.
Activities during the month include a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Youth Mobile Workshop from November 6 to 7; Ministry of Youth and Culture School Tour on November 18; #Reconnect Personal Development Sessions at Youth Information Centres (YICs) island-wide, also on November 18.
A Child Research Conference will also be held from November 4 to 6 at the Jamaica Conference Centre. In addition, a World Bank Youth Breakfast will take place on November 23; and the Minister will host a luncheon on November 25.
The National Youth Service (NYS) will stage six-a-side football competitions from November 13 to 14; and a Young Talent 2015 Art Exhibition will be held at the National Gallery from November 1 to 14.
The month will also feature ‘Pon Di Corna’ reasonings, heritage tours, and Youth in Conversation sessions throughout the island.
Activities will culminate with Wickie Wackie Music Festival in Bull Bay, St Thomas, on December 5 and 6.
