This past Saturday the airport road by Palisadoes was painted in the spirit of Age Quod Agis as the lovely ladies of the Wolmer’s Trust High School for Girls decided to venture out into the heat of the day to support a much worthy cause – themselves. The ladies, along with friends, family, members of staff and a vibing music truck set off to conquer the five mile trek to the Portland All-Age School at around 8 in the morning.

They walked, danced, played and in the last half hour, dragged themselves along the route, but it was all worth it in the end. Arriving at their destination at approximately two and a half hours later, they were rewarded by getting a chance to cool down and simultaneously heat up with an energized fully fledged water party.

     The Wolmer’s Trust High School for Girl’s walkathon is an annual event which was brought into play only recently, this being its seventh year. In true Wolmerian fashion they decided to take the bull by the horns, instead of waiting for handouts, and strive to make their school even better than it is. In previous years the walkathons were geared towards collecting funds to build a new school library along with making other minor improvements to the institution. This year however, according to Principal Mrs. Coleen Montague, the funds collected were in aim of repaving the school driveway.

      Four million dollars is what Mrs. Montague had aspired to collect and even though they didn’t quite reach their target she was still elated at the continued success of the event. She told the teenAGE that this was their “biggest turn out yet” and she is expecting it to be even better next year. Earlier promotion is one tactic to be implemented in aid of getting an even bigger turn out and collecting more funds for the betterment of the school.

      Even so, the pink clad and water-soaked principal was all smiles as she spoke whilst periodically glancing at the proceedings taking place all around. Who could blame her? Students and members of staff alike could be seen laughing, dancing and having fun, upbeat music and the smell of delicious food permeated the atmosphere, the sun was shining and the wind was blowing, not one hand on jaw was in sight. Good, clean fun was happening all around.

All in all, Wolmer’s Girl’s walkathon 2k15 was a big hit. Make it a priority to be in attendance or stretch a hand to give next year. The future can only be brighter if we assist each other to shine.
