Winning return after injury for Fearless Fury
Fitzroy Glispie, trainer of Fearless Fury, while overjoyed with the winning return of his three-year-old chestnut filly, is still very cautious and is hoping that Fearless Fury is none the worse after her win on Saturday.
Fearless Fury returned to active racing after a 10-month absence from competitive racing due to an injury.
“We are quite happy with Fearless Fury’s performance today (Saturday) as she remained unbeaten in two career starts. I am happy that after that lengthy absence, she came out here and delivered well,” Glispie said.
“After she broke her maiden tag last December in the Sunny Side Stakes she got a bone injury; she cracked her sesamoid. We then had to give her about five months of stall – rest plus we had to do a minor surgery and she came around nicely after that. I am happy that she recovered well and was able to compete again,” trainer Glispie said.
Running in the Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup for native-bred three-year-olds and upward non-winners of two fillies and mares, Fearless Fury proved too strong for rivals, cruising home by two-and-a-half lengths.
Ridden by Wesley ‘Callaloo’ Henry, Fearless Fury (Fearless Vision – Raging Fury) was unexpectedly held behind horses in mid-pack shortly after the start of the 1,200 – metre event.
Turning for home in fifth position, Henry then asked the filly to go and Fearless Fury responded well, storming through narrow gaps in deep stretch to remain unbeaten after two career starts. Dash Board (Ruja Lahoe) was third ahead of Raising The Bar (Shane Ellis). The winning time was a moderate 1:14:0 minutes.
“Well, we now just have to see how she came out of this race and plan for her future. If she is not well, then the plan will be sending her to stud this year but let’s hope she is ok,” Glispie told the Complete Racing Guide.
