A man who claimed he attacked and stabbed his woman multiple times out of jealousy, after she reneged on her promise to break off her love affair with another man, was yesterday told by the magistrate that she was going to instruct the police to charge him with attempted murder.

Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey told the accused, Devon Cunningham, that she was going to ensure that he be indicted for attempted murder after the complainant told the court that she spent almost a week in hospital after she was stabbed on her breast, chest, stomach, and arm.

“Love shouldn’t take you there,” Pusey told 45-year-old Cunningham.

The accused, who is facing a charge of unlawful wounding, reportedly attacked the woman at their home on August 10 about 10:40 and used a knife to stab her

Cunningham, on a previous occasion, told the court that he had been with the complainant for 12 years but that she left him last year after she went to do live-in work for nine months, despite his objections.

However, he said they later rekindled and she promised to change and to change her number, but a week later resumed communication with the man. Shortly after, he said he came home and found her packing to leave after she told him that his time had expired and he attacked her during an argument.

When he appeared in court this week, he told RM Pusey that he attacked the complainant because she told him that his time had expired.

“Twelve years we deh, a me cook, wash and clean,” he said.

“You ago kill her because of that, I know people who are married for 30 years, 20 years, 15 years and them divorce,” PRM Pusey said.

“It doesn’t give you the right to kill her,” he said.

Cunningham, in response, said, “I am a good person.”

“Good enough to almost kill her,” RM Pusey retorted.

The complainant then told the court, “What he did to me I don’t have the heart to do to him.”

The magistrate then extended Cunningham’s bail in the amount of $100,000. He is to return to court on December 1.
